Professor Rodrigo A. Cormanich was born in Varginha (State of Minas Gerais) in Brazil and was hired at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2017. He graduated in Chemistry (2009) from the Federal University of Lavras and received his Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry (2011) and Ph.D. (2015) from the Institute of Chemistry of Unicamp. Part of his Ph.D. (years 2013-2014) was carried out at the University of St Andrews (UK). He worked as a postdoc at the Institute of Chemistry at UNICAMP (2015-2017) and Texas A&M University (United States) from 2017 to 2018.
His main interests in chemistry are in the field of Physical Organic Chemistry. In particular, structure, conformation and stereochemistry; NMR and infrared spectroscopies; theoretical calculations of electronic structure; synthesis and physicochemical studies of organofluorine compounds; and Mechanistic investigations of organic chemistry reactions by using a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches.
He likes playing the guitar, practicing sports, and spending his time with friends (beer and good conversations are always welcome).
