Lucas A. Zeoly

Lucas A. Zeoly was born in Bebedouro (State of São Paulo, Brazil) in 1993. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Campinas in 2016. His undergraduate research was focused on the synthesis of quinolines from MBH adducts using a cascade Mizoroki-Heck/Condensation sequence.

He obtained his Master’s degree in Organic Synthesis from the same University in 2018 under the supervision of Dr. Fernando A. S. Coelho. His Master’s research concerned the development of an organocatalytic reaction to obtain polycyclic indolizines from 2-pyridinocarboxaldehydes.

In August 2018, he began his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Fernando A. S. Coelho and Dr. Rodrigo A. Cormanich at the University of Campinas. The first part of his research is focused in the study of reaction mechanisms employing 13C KIEs at natural abundance. The second part of his PhD is centered in the chemistry of organofluorine compounds. He is particularly interested in the synthesis of novel fluorinated carbohydrates and the ability of fluorine to participate as an acceptor in hydrogen bonding.

Outside the lab, Lucas’ main interests are reading, playing volleyball, and spending time with his friends – particularly when this time involves drinking beer and talking about chemistry.
