The study is the culmination of <strong>Thiago\u202fS.\u202fSilva\u2019s experimental work\u2014carried out as part of his PhD stay in Prof.\u202fBenjamin\u202fList\u2019s laboratory\u2014and Bruno\u202fA.\u202fPiscelli\u2019s in\u2011depth theoretical analysis performed in our group.<\/strong> Thiago discovered that finely tuned chiral phosphoric acids redirect the reaction away from classical Friedel\u2013Crafts addition and into a dearomative higher\u2011order\u202f[8\u202f+\u202f2] cycloaddition, providing atropisomeric cyclazines with enantioselectivities up to 98:2\u202fe.r. Bruno\u2019s DFT calculations then revealed a kinetically favored stepwise pathway and clarified how the catalyst acts as a proton shuttle in the key isomerization step, explaining both the chemoselectivity and the remarkable stereocontrol observed in the lab. This synergy between Thiago\u2019s synthetic insight and Bruno\u2019s computational rigor exemplifies the collaborative spirit of our group and opens new avenues for the concise construction of atropisomeric N\u2011heterocycles.
