We were recently graced by the visit of Professor Igor Alabugin, one of the most important world experts in Physical Organic Chemistry. It was a week that marked a blend of intellectual stimulation and cultural exchange.
The journey began in UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, where the corridors echoed with the deep insights and enlightening lectures from Professor Alabugin. A special note of gratitude to Pierre Mothé for playing the perfect host in Rio and by his efforts in bringing Professor Alabugin to Brazil. As attendees, we were treated to a meticulously planned course and several talks spanning both UFRJ and PUC-Rio.
Following our enriching week in Rio, we journeyed to São Paulo state, where we had the immense honor of hosting Professor Alabugin during this leg of his visit. During his lecture at Unicamp, Professor Alabugin delivered an undeniably captivating presentation. His discourse shone a new light on established notions of chemical bonding, emphasizing that many concepts, which we often assume to be well-understood, can indeed be revisited and perceived differently. It was a vivid reminder that even within long-established theories, there remains room for fresh perspectives and innovative interpretations.
It’s not just the academic prowess of Professor Alabugin that left an indelible mark on us, but also his humble nature, keen observational skills, and genuine interest in collaborative learning. His ability to seamlessly merge complex theories with practical applications is unparalleled. From deep academic discussions to lighthearted evening chats, every moment was a learning experience.
Hosting Professor Igor Alabugin in Brazil was not just an event, but a milestone for the academic community. Our heartfelt gratitude to him for taking out the time and sharing his invaluable insights.
